Bloom | Manny Albam 2006 Commission The Japanese poet Hakushu Kitahara wrote, "A rose bush is where a rose blooms. I suppose there is nothing mysterious about it, however." To me, this says that nature's wonder is nature being nature. A rose doesn't try to be anything else; all of it's energy is only put into being what it should be. But that roses are so strong in their beauty is the result of nature's purity. This piece is about my aspiration and longing to grow in that naturally pure, strong, and colorful way.
Dance 1. This piece was inspired by a Henri Matisse painting with the same title. It tries to show my interpretation of five dancing naked women in colorful natural surroundings as a metaphor for the contrast between life and death, night and day, happiness and sadness, silence and movement.
Island in the Stream Inspired by Ernest Hemingway's book.
