Premiere of Owls and Trees by Thalea String Quartet at Boulanger Initiative’s WoCo Fest

I am thrilled to announce the premiere of my new string quartet piece, Owls and Trees, which will be performed by the extraordinary Thalea String Quartet at Boulanger Initiative’s WoCo Fest!

This piece began its journey at the Concept Lab Workshop during the Chamber Music America Conference, where I challenged myself to explore new techniques and sounds that pushed me beyond my comfort zone. As I developed the work, I embraced the challenge of integrating experimental elements with my usual writing style, resulting in a piece that reflects both personal and artistic growth.

Program Note:
The inspiration for Owls and Trees came from a stunning photobook of owls I received as a gift. The captivating images drew me into the world of these majestic birds, and I sought to express their beauty through music. The piece reflects the calls of owls and their graceful movements — from preparing to take flight, hunting in the shadows of the woods, to soaring through the vast night sky.

A heartfelt thank you to Boulanger Initiative for this amazing opportunity and experience.
